Grants and Community Support

In 2014, Burntwood Family History Group received a grant of £4000 from the National Lottery, Heritage Lottery Fund to support the Burntwood Memorial Project. Through this work, Burntwood Family History Group gives recognition to those servicemen men from the local area and surrounding districts who gave their lives for their country in World War 1, men whose names appear on local war memorials. With the co-operation of their families, where that is possible, printed mini-biographies are produced and presented to the family and to the County Archives. Examples are displayed regularly at public events such as the Burntwood Wakes.

We have received support from the Better Burntwood Fund to enable the Group to continue purchasing subscriptions to Ancestry and Find my Past (first started in 2014 for the Memorial Project). Both websites are invaluable for carrying out research. The most recent grant, for £350, was received in November 2025.  We now use the international versions, further extending the scope of our investigations.

Lichfield Community Lottery Fund has helped with contributions towards the cost of meeting room hire and subscriptions to Zoom. When we were unable to meet physically during Covid, meetings were held on zoom. We now operate a hybrid arrangement with remote viewing an option for members unable to travel. £890 was received in November 2025.

We have used many locations for our meetings in the 40 years of our existence. The Old Mining College Centre, Chase Terrace Academy and Erasmus Darwin Academy have all featured in the last decade. The continuing support of multiple stakeholders is much appreciated.
