The 'Muckley Corner', on Muckley Corner was the original Old Coaching Inn and parts of the building date back to 1683.
An inn was recorded there in the 1790's when the Craddock family lived at Muckley Corner House, presumably on the site of the later hotel. James Craddock was both a Farmer and a Victualler and he died about 1808.
In 1868 and 1873 two lodges of the Oddfellows were established and they met at the Muckley Corner Inn and probably drew most of their members from the Ogley Hay and Brownhills area.
In 1891 the building together with 8 acres of land was sold to a brewery. The brewery demolished a substantial amount of the old inn and incorporated the reminder into the new Inn. Part of the old bar is still visible.
Some of the buildings on the land were sold off and they were converted to small cottages. These were subsequently bought back and formed part of the 23 bed roomed Muckley Corner Hotel.
For a brief spell during its time, the hotel was known as the Olde Corner House Hotel.
The pub modernised and part of it was opened as an Italian restaurant.
In 2010 the premises were closed.

The photograph above belongs to David and Kathy Cresswell who very kindly sent a copy to the occupants of the hotel.
It shows Enoch Cresswell seated and his with Fanny Cresswell behind the bar. Two of their nine children, Jack and Doll are shown. Enoch was born about 1861 in Brownhills and Fanny was born about 1868 in Stonnall.
Enoch and Fanny married at Ogley Hay on the 21st May 1888.
In 1891 Enoch and Fanny were living in Church Street, Ogley Hay with two of their children. Enoch was at this time a Coal Miner.
Between 1891 and 1901 Enoch and fanny took the pub over.
In 1901 Enoch and fanny were living at the Muckley Corner House Hotel with six of their children. Enoch was by then an Inn Keeper.
Enoch and Fanny ran the pub until 1902 and it is believed that the photograph was taken between 1900 and 1902. |

When the house was condemned and demolished (and became part of the car park), we moved to Catshill Road, Brownhills"
