These have included The Family History Centre (TNA), The Public Record Office, The Society of Genealogists and The Family History Fair at the National Exibhition Centre in Birmingham

Past local visits have included those to The County and Diocesian Record Offices at Lichfield and Stafford, The Family History Centre at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Lichfield, The South Staffordshire Military Museum in Whittington and The National Memorial Arboretum in Alrewas

The Group has been represented several times at Local History Fairs at Lichfield, Stafford and Walsall, The Millennium Point and the Mail Box, both in Birmingham.

Our next oreganised visit - The National Archives
Our next organised visit is to The National Archives at Kew, London on Wednesday 2nd May 2012
Our last visit to the National Archives in May of last year was greatly over subscribed and some people were disappointed they could not go. If you want to go please contact Jenny Lee (01889 586168)

This year we are changing coach companies, but the trip will still hopefully follow our usual format.

The coach will pick up from the following places in in Lichfield and Burntwood:-

Lichfield Bus Station - Swan Island, Burntwood - Cannock Wood Village Hall - Morrisons Island, Burntwood

Departure time from Lichfield Bus Station is 07.00 The coach then travels the pickup route and usually reaches Morrison Island about 07.30 (Please allow for the coach to be very punctual and don't panic if the coach runs a little late)

On the homeward journey the coach picks up from the National Archives at 17.00
There are comfort stops on the outward and homeward journey

It is possible that the order of pickup points may change depending on numbers going but notification will be given in advance

We normally have a quiz or some sort of competition en route with a prize for the winner

For the first time visitors, there are always people on the coach who are very willing to give advice and explain the layout and working of The National Records Office. There is a drinks and snacks machine and a place to eat sandwiches and a restaurant

The cost of the trip is £20.00 and payable in advance. For further details and to beook a seat, please contact Jenny Lee (01889 586168) ASAP, as
places are limited and are allocated on a first come first served basis

Research underway

Research complete

Members spent their day researching, especially searching War Service Records and War Diaries. Many Members were very pleased with the free access to the 1911 Census

On the return journey there was much discussion about the success of research and many a printed document was passed around the coach. Our thanks go to Jenny Lee for organising yet another successful visit
