I wonder If you could help me. I am trying to find information on my Grandfather Thomas Hanks born 1880, who died in St Mathews Hospital on the 22nd August 1957. I believe he was a patient at the hospital from around 1938. I am trying to trace his Grave and have visited the church on several occasions without any luck. The only information I have is on a In Memoriam card which states that he was Interred in Burntwood Church,Lichfield. Any help or advice would be most welcome. Regards John

I would be most grateful for photographs or other information about the house owned by my husband's family from approx 1910 - 1950 in your area. This was "Fosseway House" Pipehill. Lichfield and the Claridge family were known to own other land in the vicinity. Thanks Lynda

I am trying to locate and identify a man who lived in High Street, Chasetown – on the opposite side of the High Street to the present Sports Complex – in or around the 1940/50’s. He was I believe connected with the ‘bookies’ business and had the first name of Dick (presumably Richard) and a surname believed to be Richards, but this is subject to a fading memory!. The first name of his wife was Clarise or similar spelling.
Any information would be much appreciated. Please contact me by the E-mail link above or write to me at 23 Dam Street, Lichfield, Staffs, WS13 6AE

I have come across some information regarding a distant family connection - Thomas Finn and family, of Triangle Terrace - and the only reference I can find to Triangle in this area of Staffordshire is the Triangle Public House in Chasetown. The Finn family previously lived in Ogley Square, Brownhills.
I would be grateful for any information on Thomas Finn and his family. Thanks Tom

'Hello, Further to my E-mail on the 7th March, I've enclosed another four photographs and I think that they also may be members of my Proverbs family who hailed from Staffordshire. In 1900 the family lived at 100 Heath Street, Hednesford. Sometime after 1908, they moved to 89 New Buildings, Rawnsley. I am hoping that someone will be able to put names to the faces on the photographs'
Anyone with information can write to me at 92 Leurbost Lochs, Isle of Lewis, HS2 9NS, Scotland or telephone me on (01851 - 860468) Thanks, Terry

Hello, I'm trying to find out about my grandmother Florence Baugh who was born in 1911 and trained as a nurse in Staffordshire. Relatives say she trained at Stafford County Mental Hospital but I think this could have been Saint Matthew's Hospital, Burntwood. Thank you for any help you can give, Wayne

Hello, I'm 70 years of age and one of Bertram Oswald Proverbs sons when I was about 14, I came across a black wallet belonging to my father. I dared to look inside, worrying if I would get a telling off, as back then your things were different. My father gave me very little information about the photographs below. The Proverbs family hailed from Staffordshire. In 1900 they lived at 100 Heath Street, Hednesford. Sometime after 1908, they moved to 89 New Buildings, Rawnsley. I am searching for anyone who can lift the lid on this Pandor's box and put names to the faces on the photographs'

Hello bfhg, I am researching my family tree and have discovered that my great great grandfather was Henry Spurrier Brindley of Burntwood. He was a land agent and sometime schoolteacher in Burntwood. I was surprised to find, too, that he was the enumerator of the district in 1851. His wife was Mary Webb whose father, Henry, and family owned the Star Inn in Burntwood for many years. My partner and I came to the village last weekend and had a drink in the Star (very exciting!) and a search around the graveyard. We found some family graves covered with leaves but I notice on your website that you have transcripts of monumental inscriptions and also the surname index to the register of Christ Church. I know Henry and Mary were married there. Most of the family are traceable through the censuses from 1841 right through to 1911 but my great grandfather, Henry, disappears after 1861 and then reappears in Salford Lancashire (my home town) in 1881. Do any of your members have any knowledge of this family and could they shed any light on why or where he might have gone in the intervening years? We had a super time in Burntwood and in the Lichfield Register Office where we searched through wills and tithe maps. Everyone was so helpful... I can't wait to come back again! Any info' would be really welcome. Thank you, Jane

Hello there! It is a warm sunny (+33 degrees C) post-Christmas day here in Port Kennedy Western Australia (approx. 60kms South of Perth). While the family is having a siesta I thought I'd surf the net and came across the Burntwood Family History Group's website. My surname is Harper. I was born in 6 Larch Road Brereton, Rugeley on 8 March 1959 to Allan Victor Harper (b. 8 June 1927, d. 24 Dec 2001) and Belinda Ursula Harper (nee Bird, b. 3 Oct 1931). I have an uncle Jim Harper who still lives in Cannock, Staffs. The website had a list of surnames and your name/contact came up alongside the Harper surname. I wonder if you have any info on my family tree or could direct me to some online resources that could help me. My paternal grandparents were Thomas George Harper and Mary Jane Harper of Rawnsley, Staffs. I myself emigrated with my family to South Africa in Jan 1971 where I lived until returning to the U.K. (London) in 1986. I met my wife there who was on holiday from Australia. We subsequently married and had a son then we emigrated to W.A. in 1991. We then had a daughter, Natasha in 1992. Ay assistance would be greatly appreciated. A belated Merry Christmas to you and Happy New Year, Andrew
