About Us |
Burntwood Family History Group was founded in 1986 in the living room of a house in Burntwood, Staffordshire by a small group of people with the idea of researching their family history in towns and villages in the Burntwood area. We have grown steadily and our aim continues to be to bring together those who are interested in researching their family history and although we are a small group, our membership consists of people of all ages and professions and is worldwide. We meet at the Burntwood Old Mining College
Our Group functions entirely by the efforts of the voluntary committee, and grants obtained and we are non-profit making
We produce a quarterly journal which is available free to members and £1.00 to non members. Whether you are a seasoned genealogist or a beginer we are sure you will find something of interest to you and if you are just thinking about researching your family history, we can give you some tips on getting started
We have two monthly meetings; the first when we have a guest speaker to give a talk on a family history connected subject to increase our knowledge and help in our research and the second when we meet for an informal discussion and research our family history through the use of our members library stock of microfiche, CD's, DVD's, books, videos and the internet. Both meetings are open to members and non members alike. We also run a "Drop In" surgeries. Dates of all our meeting can be found in our diary.
